About the hosting organisation
Legambiente Italy is the main environmental organization of Italy and since 1980 has been working with national administrations and local communities for the implementation of sustainable practices.
In 1988 opened local entity Legambiente Lecco with the main focus on ecology, sustainability, and tourism.
In 2013 Legambiente Lecco started their biggest project: the management of an eco-hostel in the middle of a regional Park – Ostello Monte Barro. Ostello Monte Barro will be your hosting organisation in the project and the main place of the activities.
The Hostel Parco Monte Barro is an eco-hostel led by Legambiente Lecco based on environmentally sustainable values. It is located in the middle of Monte Barro Regional Park, situated at 750m above sea level.
The hostel is located in an ancient hermitage, with only a small church from the 16th century being left of it. The local facilities consist in 1) the above-mentioned church (rarely open), 2) the hostel itself, 3) a bar-restaurant, which is open only for lunch on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and 4) an archaeological museum.
Being in a hermitage means that we will be isolated: we will live in a very beautiful and natural environment, far from the city life.
Activities
In the first days of the project you will have on arrival training when you will learn more about the rules, the hostel, the daily tasks and the other volunteers in order to create a familiar space where everyone can feel comfortable together.
Most activities will take place at the Ostello Monte Barro venue. For any activities held at other locations, the hosting
organization will arrange and provide transportation. Activities will take place indoor and outdoor and might be in any weather conditions.
The activities will focus on green practices in contact with nature, linked to healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle. There will also be meetings with the local community to learn more about their sustainable practices and share your experience.
Working with animals:
🟢 the campaign for the preservation of toads;
🟢 local self-production;
🟢 farm trip.
Learning about the area:
🟢 ex: trekking activities.
Caring for the group and the place where we live:
🟢 transfeminist workshop;
🟢 manual, artistic, creative activities on recycling and reuse.

Volunteer profile
• aged 18 to 30;
• legal resident or citizen of an EU country;
• interested in living in an isolated area;
• ready for activities with farm animals or toads;
• open for physical or manual work and “get hands dirty”;
• ready for trekking experiences;
• ready to follow vegan of vegetarian diet;
• ready to cook for yourself and others;
• ready to share private spaces with the team
• be open minded;
• positive and peaceful attitude;
• flexibility to adapt to possible changes;
• proactive and respectful;
• ready to go out from comfort zone, experiment, and explore;
• at least intermediate knowledge of English.
