| ABOUT THE PROJECT: CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES The project aims to address critical social issues through targeted initiatives in the local community. It focuses on three main objectives, each supported by specific volunteer activities. 1. Tackling educational poverty and school failure Volunteers will implement educational and training activities aimed at students from local schools who come from challenging socio-cultural backgrounds. These activities are designed to enhance their academic performance and reduce school failure. 2. Fighting marginalization and social exclusion Volunteers will take part in solidarity activities related to food poverty in collaboration with the Caritas of Naples. Their work will support initiatives to provide food assistance and alleviate hunger among the most vulnerable people. 3. Promoting active youth participation in society Volunteers will lead workshops on active citizenship within the local community that aim to empower young people to engage in societal issues, fostering a sense of responsibility and community involvement. At the same time, volunteers will support the hosting organization (Ianua Australis) in its daily work (for example, implementation of training courses, volunteering actions and information sessions about “Erasmus+” and “European Solidarity Corps” programs). Volunteers will be the main actors of a gradual and organic path from the personal development to the active citizenship, through the local communities: starting from some important aspects of the identity construction, there’ll be the conditions for introducing paths in order to approach, in a positive way, the diversity and overcome prejudices, stereotypes, mistrust and racism. In the short term, the project aims to make the local communities’ youngsters interpret of behaviour patterns based on solidarity and co-responsibility. Instead, medium-long term goals are: ▪ improving the dialogue between young people and educational agencies (formal and non-formal) with the local community; ▪ developing consciousness and sense of responsibility, especially among young people with fewer opportunities, in order to ensure a more active and mature participation in society; ▪ trying new approaches for matching civic engagement and experiential learning; ▪ implementing the capability of the socio-educational animation so that young people will be encouraged to get involved in volunteering and to be part of a positive social change in their communities; ▪ creating a more modern and dynamic working environment, by integrating the good practice and developing new working methods in the daily activities; ▪ spreading the EU values improving the promotion of programs and activities of international mobility. |
| ACCOMMODATION The apartment is located in Torre del Greco (Naples) and is equipped with all essential comforts. Please note: the apartment will be shared with other international volunteers, so double rooms will be arranged. |
| FINANCIAL CONDITIONS AND BENEFITS ▪ Travel costs: reimbursed up to 309€ ▪ Pocket money: 180€/month ▪ Accommodation costs: fully covered ▪ Food costs: 170€/month ▪ Main local public transportation costs: 8 months fully covered ▪ Health insurance costs: fully covered ▪ Italian language lessons: fully covered (8 hours/month) ▪ Free weekends and 2 days off a month (that can be accumulated) |
