Bona Fides Association and Solidarites Jeunesses are looking for Polish participants (aged 18-30) for 2-weeks ESC workcamp “CULTIVATING LIVING THINGS. PLANTING TREES” in France with L’île au vent !

Location: Ploeven, near Quimper, France
Dates: 03.11.2024-17.11.2024
Duration: 2 weeks
PROJECT
“Act in your place, think with the world”.
Edouard Glissant
L’île au vent is an association under the law of 1901, with the aim of promoting agroecology and permaculture as part of a popular education approach. Protecting life is a key priority, and this work camp will respond to your fundamental desire to be active and committed, and develop your ability to think in a cooperative and creative way. The rhythm of the seasons beats the rhythm of our actions. At the start of autumn, like every year, the Ile au Vent farm is entering its agroforestry development phase.
WORK
During this workcamp, you will learn how to create a garden forest as well as how to plant trees and propagate plants by division and cuttings. You will discover the major role of trees in our ecosystems and the symbioses that link them with other organisms. Depending on the weather conditions, we’ll be continuing to plant the garden forest and fodder hedges, or developing the Cab’Ânes with the installation of a space for the hens. We’ll also be able to carry out the first composting trials. You’ll also be helping to plant trees for a local farmer to encourage mutual aid and solidarity.
ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD
Location: Ploeven, near Quimper.
Closest train station: Quimper. Closest airports: Brest- Bretagne, Quimper-Bretagne or Paris-Charles De Gaulle.
Time and directions to the meeting point: We will be waiting for you at Kermerrien (29550 Ploéven) around 3pm. From Quimper station, take bus number 37 to the village of Ploéven.
You will be staying in a bright and pleasant house in Ploeven. You will sleep in rooms for 4 or 5 people. Kitchen, toilets, sinks and showers on site. Remember to bring your sleeping bags and single sheets. Pillows will be provided.
Food is provided and included in the holiday budget. We will take it in turns to prepare meals. We will give preference to local and/or organic produce. We will limit our meat consumption to twice a week. We’ll be happy to share our recipes and our creative culinary talents.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES
In Ploeven, a small village full of character with its own bakery, crêperie and small bar, you can enjoy a wide range of walks and cycle rides in the surrounding countryside or head out to the ocean for a host of water-based activities, such as surfing, sailing or kayaking with the local clubs. Depending on the weather, you can board the schooner Bilbo to learn about cooperative and maritime life. Sailing around Douarnenez Bay is a unique experience. You’ll fall under the spell of the marine animals and underground caves, among other things.
The towns of Chateaulin (the Run Ar Puns with its small national stage: concerts and community bar), Quimper (Breton museum, art and history), Douarnenez, the town of three ports with its film festival (on Brazil this year!), the town of Locronan (with the best of kouing-aman) and the town of Brest (naval museum and theatre) will also provide unforgettable encounters.
During the shared meals, you’ll be able to meet local market gardeners and producers and visit their production sites.
