Project activities

The Municipal Children’s and Youth Center of Riga is an institution for social care and social rehabilitation, which provides housing, full care and social rehabilitation for orphans and children left without parental care from 2 to 18 years of age, in crisis as well as provide social and informative support for children at social risk groups. The volunteers will work with people with fewer opportunities in order to help them in their personal development of young people, self-directed youth, continuous participation in the education process and integration into the labour market. They’ll be involved in different daily activities promoted by Riga Municipal Children’s Youth Center for the youngsters of the Center such as: Creative workshops; Foreign language courses/discussion clubs; educational programs based on non-formal education.

Volunteer’s profile

We are looking for volunteers who want to work closely with people with fewer opportunities as orphans and children left without parental care. Will be considered a plus Previous experience in youth work and especially in work with youngsters with fewer opportunities. Is required a basic knowledge of english, at least to have a conversation, also knowledge of the Russian language will be considered as a plus.

Practicalities

Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in a house with other volunteers and youngsters (7 persons in total). Each volunteer has his/her own room with all the necessary equipment there as well as all the basic necessary things for living in the house.

Food and Pocket money: The monthly contribution for food will be provided to every volunteer and volunteers will receive monthly pocket money as stipulated by European Solidarity Corps. These two amounts will be paid at the beginning of every month. The pocket money is approx 120 EUR per month (calculated by 4 EUR/day as this is the amount for the projects in Latvia). The food money are approx 150 EUR/month (calculated by 5 EUR/day).
